They're on a Roll!

Albert Pujols has been gaining ground in the Triple Crown with BA and he already has the leauge-best 47 HR. The Cardinals have opened up a huge lead over the Cubs (11.5 games). Ryan Franklin has been shutting them down and I really loved Matt Holiday's clutch homer against Millwaukee!! The Cardinals are almost a shoe in for the playoffs and we'll see how the Card do the September and October. Hopefully they'll reach 100 wins. By the way, Carp should get the Cy Young (16-3, 2.16 ERA) or Wainwright (MLB-best 18 W). 1-2-3 guys are 16-3, 18-7-and 14-9!!!

The New Cardinals

Since late June the Cardinals have added Mark DeRosa from the Indians for Chris Perez and Jess Todd, gotten Julio Lugo from the Red Sox for Chris Duncan, and their newest aquisition Matt Holliday and $1.5 million from the A's for Brett Wallace, Clayton Mortensen, and Shane Peterson. I think these are good moves but I was really looking forward to seeing Brett Wallace appear as one of the rising stars for the Cardinals. The down side is that DeRosa's and Holliday's contracts are up at the end of the season but the Cardinals have intentions of signing them back. Just imagine if they had Troy Glaus healthy, Khalil Greene filling his potential, and Todd Wellemeyer playing like he did last year, we would be unstoppable! They're coming off a dissappointing series against the Phillies being outscored 8-21 in the last 2 games. Thankfully they're going back home to face the Dodgers in 4 game series with Chris Carpenter (8-3) vs. Randy Wolf (5-4) starting Monday on ESPN. Go Cards!!

Matt's Holliday

The Cardinals have aquired Matt Holliday and $1.5 million from the A's for the Cardinals top prospect Brett Wallace, Clayton Mortensen, and Shane Peterson. Matt seems very happy to get out the American League and the A's and he's very happy to be on a good team in a pennant race. In his debut Friday, he went 4-5 with a double, stolen base, and RBI in an 8-1 rout of the Phillies. Joel Pinero got the win to improve to 9-9 on the season and his ERA drops to 2.95 and rookie J.A. Happ (7-1) was handed his first loss of the season.

Home Run Derby

Ready for tonight's home run derby cardinals fans!! Ludwick should be in it but Pujols is going to dominate.
